Anita Joyce Johnson Obituary (1944 - 2023)

Anita Joyce Johnson, age 79, of Elwood, IN passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. She was born in Elwood, IN on April 27, 1944, to the late Earl and Margaret (Shepard) Shallenberger. Anita spent her life helping others, praying for everyone, and spreading the Word of God. She read her Bible and Studied it with a passion. She adored her family and friends and loved spending quality time with them; she especially adored playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anita was a great cook and passed down many recipes. She was tiny in stature but had a giant heart. Anita is survived by a loving daughter, Tia Sheets of Peru, IN; two sons, Monty Sheets of Elwood, IN and Robert Sheets of Pendleton, IN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Sherry) Shallenberger, Jack (Juanita) Shallenberger, and Steve (Elizabeth) Shallenberger all of Elwood; two sisters, Lisa (Dene) Burton of Elwood and Kimberly Sue Curren of Heltonville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Margaret Shallenberger; husband, John Johnson; son, Chris Sheets; two sisters, Brenda McClish and Judy Dauenhauer; brother, Marty Shallenberger; and grandson, Steven Sheets. Anita's wishes were to be cremated and have a Celebration of Life. The Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
