Anita L. Wheeler Obituary (1939 - 2024)

Anita L. Wheeler, age 84, of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Meadow Brook Senior Living. Anita was born in Elwood on July 30, 1939, to the late Jasper and Sylvia (Jones) Smith. Anita was the youngest of eleven children. On April 11, 1959, she married George S. "Scotty" Wheeler and shared 47 years of marriage until Scotty's passing in March of 2007. Anita attended Morton Memorial High School and was a part of the graduating class of 1957. Scotty went to work for Chrysler after finishing school and Anita was a homemaker. She loved being able to care for her family. She always wanted to be busy, so in her free time, she would crochet, sew, and do crosswords. She enjoyed going to play Bingo and going to the Casino. Anita was an avid sports watcher especially when it came to IU Basketball. She enjoyed her family most of all and loved that she had the opportunity to attend her grandchildren's sporting events. Anita is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mike) Carmody of Elwood; granddaughters, Sabrina (Sean) LeBlanc of Fishers, IN, Keisha (Travis) Tranbarger of Brownsburg, IN and Michelle (Matt) Heineman; great-grandchildren, George LeBlanc, Benjamin LeBlanc, Kendyl Tranbarger, Trevan Tranbarger, Tessa Lynn Richards, and Caytee Richards; special niece, Vickie Brooks of Middlebury, IN, and many other special nieces and nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper & Sylvia Smith; husband, George S. "Scotty" Wheeler; Son, Barry S. Wheeler; and grandson, Scott M. Richards. Visitation for Anita will be Monday, January 8, 2024, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, January 8, 2024, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Rev. Mark Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
