Ann (Gilman) Carter

Ann Carter, 77, formerly of Elwood, now of Marco Island, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Naples Hospital, surrounded by her husband and friends.
Ann was born on July 27, 1937, in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Gilbert and Shirley Gilman.
Ann graduated from Martinsville High School in 1955. She attended Indiana University and graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in textile marketing. Ann was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. Ann married her college sweetheart, Michael C. Carter on July 1, 1961.
Ann was co-owner of Carter's Supermarket in Elwood and Tipton. She earned her boating Captain's License and was the Captain of Lady Ann for many years. Ann was an avid fisherman. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and especially loved to go on cruises. Ann loved being on the ocean where she and Mike once spent 7 months on their yacht. Ann was a member of 3 yacht clubs and was a charter member of Marco Island Yacht Club. She was a former member of the Elwood Country Club where she was an avid golfer. Ann was also a member of Hideaway Beach Club and enjoyed playing bocce ball.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Mike Carter of Marco Island, Florida.
Ann was preceded in death by her Father, Gilbert Gilman, Mother, Shirley Gilman, Son, Gil Carter, Son, Michael C. Carter II, Brother Ray Gilman, and her in-laws Claude & Fran Carter.

Ann's wishes were to be cremated and re-united with her sons.
A celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4:00-6:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Dunnichay Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
