Charles E Ledford

Charles E. Ledford, age 90, lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away onJuly 28, 2012, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, following an extended illness.Charlie was born on July 12, 1922, to Joe and Salina (Spurlock) Ledford in Cawood, KY. He married Nelva (McConnel) Ledford on Apr. 2, 1946; they were the parents of three children.

Charlie was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army Engineers from 1942 to 1945.He was a farmer, and worked in trailer factories, Textron, and
retired as custodian from Edgewood Elementary School in Elwood. He was a member of the Elwood VFW. He enjoyed and loved his family, gardening, writing poems, visiting the hospital and nursing home to take roses to his friends.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nelva Ledford of Elwood
Daughter - Janet & husband Jack Osborn of Elwood
Son in law- John Dean of Elwood
6 Grandchildren- Tammy Conner, Jennifer Kinser, Angie Jones,
Joey & Daniel Ledford, Jackie & wife Laura Osborn
9 Great grandchildren and 3 Great great grandchildren
Uncle- Rufus Spurlock of Florida
5 Sister in laws, and several nieces & nephews

He was preceded in death by his parent, Joe & Salina Ledford, Son Joe Ledford, and Daughter Peggy Dean.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 11:00 am at the Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor James Snapp, officiating.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood with military graveside services conducted by the Elwood VFW.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 31st. from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Dunnichay Funeral Home
