Gerry W Buttler Obituary (1950 - 2017)

Jonnie L. Buttler, age 69 and his brother Gerry W. Buttler, age 67 passed away after a brief illness at their residence. Jonnie was born in Elwood, In on September 30, 1948 and Gerry was born in Elwood, In on July 4, 1950 to Floyd "Mac" and Clela (Goodknight) Buttler. There parents preceded them in death. Jonnie attended Wendell L. Willkie High School and graduated in 1966. While he was in school he was involved in the business accounting curriculum, was a member of the tennis team, the concessions club, the Spanish club and F.B.L.A. Jonnie proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Jonnie retired from the U.S. Post Office where he was an Elwood carrier for many years. He enjoyed playing chess, was a member of Toys for Tots Foundation, and was a life member of the Major League Baseball Insiders Club. Gerry also attended Wendell L. Willkie High School and graduated in 1968. While he was in school he was a member of the National Honor Society during his junior & senior year. He was a member of the academic band, and participated in the senior play. Gerry will be remembered for his high level of intelligence. Jonnie & Gerry were preceded in death by hteir beloved parents and are survived by several distant cousins. . A gathering for family, friends & classmates to share stories and visit will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10-11:00 AM at the Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood, In. Funeral services to celebrate their lives will be conducted at 11:00 AM with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Elwood V.F. W. Color Guard. Memorial contribution may be made through the funeral home to help offset funeral expenses.
