Harold "Jim" James Wells Obituary (1938 - 2024)

Harold James "Jim" Wells, age 85, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson, IN. Jim was born in Elwood on July 2, 1938, to the late Otto and Cecilia (Widener) Wells. On December 28,1962 he married Sandra L. (Hodson) they shared 21 years of marriage and 3 children. Then on December 20,1984 he married Beth A. (Bambrough) they shared 22 years of marriage before her passing October 2, 2006. His last marriage was on July 11, 2009, to Sharon R. (Miller) Wells and they shared 12 years of marriage before her passing on February 15, 2022. Jim grew up in Elwood and attended Wendell L. Willkie High School and was a part of the graduating class of 1957. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served our Nation for 23 years, during which he served in the Vietnam conflict. After retiring from the Air Force, he turned his hobby of woodworking and craftwork into a business and started Lighthouse Studio. He enjoyed stained glass, jewelry making, and weaving and would set up at big festivals and sell his work. While living in Michigan, Jim was Citizen of the Year in Oscoda, served on the Chamber of Commerce, and was President and Vice President of many festivals. In his free time, he loved fishing, gardening, metal detecting, and Native American Dancing. Jim was a member of several Native American Councils, an American Mensa Member, and a member of the Knights of Pythian. Jim lived a full life and will be missed by many. Jim is survived by his daughter, Tamara L. Wells of Alexandria, IN; son, Michael L. (Catherine) Wells of Avon, IN; Daughter, Tanja L. Martin of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Kristina (Christopher) Clark of Alexandria, Leonard A. (Amanda) Tribe, III. of Alexandria, Elizabeth Wells of Avon, Sarah Wells of Avon, and Patrick Martin of Spokane, WA; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and daughter, Joan (Dan) Carpenter of Portage, MI. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Otto & Cecilia Wells; wife, Sharon R. Wells; Brothers Earl Wells, Robert Wells, Walter Wells, Charles Wells, and Bennie M. Wells; and sister, Helen Minch. A time for visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. The funeral service for Jim will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana. The family has chosen cremation and a private burial at a later date.
