Elwood, Indiana
John Richard Blockson went home to Jesus after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was born in Anderson on November 17, 1979, to Rosemary (Compton) Kendall and Arthur Blockson.
John had a tender heart and if you knew him, he would be your best friend. He was a special and unique person that exuded so much care for everyone he met. He was a prankster and always had jokes to tell. He made the best of every situation, even through his cancer treatments, and the doctors and nurses loved his sense of humor and ornery ways.
John loved the outdoors. He would often spend his days fishing, hiking, and floating in the river. He loved to be around his friends and family. He was a talented artist and musician; and if there was a guitar around, he would pick it up and play and sing.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Golda Compton, Art Blockson, and Joyce Major.
John is survived by his children, Jacob Pennington Blockson, Davis Blockson, and Lydia Blockson; his mother, Rosemary (Compton) Kendall; his father, Arthur Blockson; his two sisters, Jennifer Shively and Ashley (Keith) Boston; his grandfather, James Major; his nieces and nephews, Brittnee Rust, Blake Shively, Braydon Shively, Bailee Boston, Dylan Stone, Kolton Stone, Maci Stone, and Ella Boston; his uncle and best friend/hiking buddy, Rick Compton; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dunnichay Funeral Home is honored to care for John and his family, and his wishes were to be cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service and celebration of life at a later date for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have donations made in John's name to Man4Man ministries in Anderson, as they were an important part of his recovery journey.
The family would also like to recognize the special nurses and doctors at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis Oncology (6th Floor), and ICU Team 4 for the special care they gave John and his family throughout his illness.
We encourage all who knew John to share their photos, memories, and condolences, on his Remember Page at www.dunnichayfuneralhome.com
