John W "Jay" Powers Obituary (1918 - 2013)

John W. "Jay" Powers, age 95, of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born on June 13, 1918, in Parma, MO, to the late John and Nebraska (Stratton) Powers. Jay married the love of his life on Dec. 11, 1940, Opal Juanita (Jaynes) Powers and she passed away on Sept. 26, 1995.Jay retired in 1982, from Delco Remy after 30 years of service.He was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church and a Life Member of the Elwood Elks. Jay's surviving family includes a Son - John & (Grace) Powers of Elwood Five Grandchildren: Kimberly Hughes, Leslie &(Jessie) Weitman, Sam & (Caterina) Tyner, Brett & (Jacquie) Tyner, Christi Tyner Nine Great Grandchildren & Three Great Great Grandchildren Jay was preceded in death by his Father, John W. Powers, Mother, Nebraska Powers. Celebration of life service will be at 12:00 pm, Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Pastor Joe Searcy of the First Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Elwood Mausoleum. Visitation will be Saturday, December 28, 2013, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
