Johnie W Capshaw Obituary (1943 - 2022)

Johnie W. Capshaw, age 79, of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Johnie was born in Anderson, IN on December 20, 1943, to the late Jessie and Dolly (Gordon) Capshaw. On October 20, 1967, he married the love of his life Sherry (Bronnenberg) Capshaw, and they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage together. Johnie proudly served our country in the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War in the 101st Airborne. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and working on cars as a mechanic. Johnie passed down his love for cars to his children who he taught how to service their own vehicles, or they didn't get a license. He loved life, but his true passion and love was for his family and grandchildren. Johnie is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Capshaw of Elwood; three sons, Johnny (Melissa) Capshaw of Elwood, Jeff (Shelly) Burger of Frankton, and Adam (Brittany) Shortridge of Summitville; daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Dunham of Terre Haute; 27 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 16 siblings, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Johnie was preceded in death by his two sons, James Capshaw and Ty Ritcher; daughter, Angel Large; grandson, Johnny Capshaw, Jr.; and great-grandsons, Ryan & Jessie Mikesell. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. Funeral service celebrating Johnie's life will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood chapel with Pastor Jonathan Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery with full military graveside services conducted by the US Army and the Elwood VFW Honor Guard Unit.
