Judith Ann "Judy" (Goings) Mountcastle Obituary (2016)

Judith Ann "Judy" Mountcastle, age 72, of Anderson, passed peacefully away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Community Hospital in the company of her family after a brief illness. Judy was born in to Dorsal "Doc" and Wanda (Sorrell) Goings July 23, 1943 and was a 1961 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. On May 20,1961, Judy married her high school sweetheart, Harold E. "Monty" Mountcastle, and set off for a great life of adventure married to a "Military Man" and living in Montana, Colorado, and finally returning to Indiana and settling in the Anderson area to raise a family. Judy was the ever faithful wife, devout Catholic, fantastic cook, accomplished artist in crafting-even knitting beautiful shawls for the church ministry and the voice of an angel for the Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church choir. In her younger years, Judy was a very busy mother transporting her children to sports. One of the sweetest memories was Judy using a toothbrush to scrub clean the lettering of her kid's baseball/softball caps just so that they would have the cleanest uniforms. Just one of many sweet stories of a very proud mom of her family. Her pride of family grew ever more with the birth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved and enjoyed sharing photos with everyone. Judy was a member of Joyful Sound and an avid fan of Lapel Bulldogs and proud sponsor of the Lapel High School Marching Band. Judy is survived by her loving children, son, Robert (Janell) Mountcastle of Juneau, Alaska; son, Scott (Sheila) Mountcastle of Anderson; daughter, Darla Mountcastle of Pendleton; son, Chad (Melissa) Mountcastle of Juneau, Alaska; granddaughters, Heather Mountcastle (fiance' Tj Paige) of Alaska; Abigail (Griffin) Pochop of Idaho; Amanda (Justin) Huffman of Anderson; Emily (partner Chase) Shively and Jenna Rigdon of Anderson; Kaitlyn Mountcastle & Alexis Mountcastle of Alaska. Grandsons; Gregory Mountcastle of Anderson and Eric (partner Ashton) Mountcastle of Washington. Great-grandchildren, Jayden Huffman, Parker Huffman, and Hunter Huffman. Sister, Peggy (Morris) Cooper of Elwood, sister, Debbie (David) Morrow of Florida, sister-in-law, Marsha Goings of Summitville. Judy is survived by several treasured nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Monty, her beloved husband of 53 years, infant son Eric Dion Mountcastle, and brother Dorsal "Butch" Goings. A funeral service celebrating Judy's life will be at 7:00 PM, Friday, April 15, 2016, at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood with Monsignor Sell. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Monty and Judy Mountcastle will be held on May 6th, 2016 at 11AM at Holy Spirit of Geist church with a graveside service to follow at 3PM at St. Joseph cemetery in Elwood IN. As a proud "Band Mom"- in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lapel Bulldogs Band-Boosters.
