Larry "Hoot" Holtsclaw Obituary (1943 - 2023)

Larry "Hoot" Holtsclaw, age 79 of Elwood passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Elwood Health and Living following a short battle with cancer. Larry was born on November 3, 1943, the son of William "Glen" and Lillian (Richardson) Holtsclaw. Larry was a graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Delco Remy in Anderson and later transferred to Delco Electronics in Kokomo where he worked until he retired in 1999. Larry married Carlene (Grimes) Harrell in 1983 and they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage together before her death in 2021. Larry was a member of the local V.F.W. Post 5782 and the American Legion Post 53. Larry enjoyed fishing, watching I.U. Basketball, Notre Dame Football, and his beloved Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed going to car shows and listening "oldies" music. Larry leaves behind one daughter, Sarah Holtsclaw of Elwood; and three step children, Joseph (Nicole) Harrell of Elwood, Suzanne Harrell of Noblesville, and Michelle (Scott) Leavell of Elwood; two brothers, Ronnie (Cathleen ) Holtsclaw of Detroit Lake, MN and Jerry Ray (Diane) Holtsclaw of Frankton; two sisters, Judy Buckoof Valparaiso and Carolyn (Terry) Whittaker of Elwood; 10 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents William and Lillian Holtscalw; his wife, Carlene Holtsclaw; two brothers, Edward Holtsclaw and David Holtsclaw; sister Mary Kay Hobbs; and a grandson, Denton Bryant. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St., Elwood, IN 46036. A funeral service celebrating Larry's life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Rich Leavell officiating.
