Mattie L. "Lucy" Tarter Obituary (1942 - 2024)

Mattie L. "Lucy" Tarter, age 81, of Alexandria, IN passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. She was born in Red Key, IN on September 20, 1942, to the late Cecil and Mable (Smith) Fugett. On April 20, 1963, she married Russell L. Tarter and they shared 50 years of marriage together before he passed away on May 2, 2013. Lucy was a faithful member of Main Street Wesleyan Church and a former member of the Red Corner Home Extension Club. She enjoyed participated in the historical re-enactments, cake decorating and spending time with her family. Lucy is survived by two daughters, Tonya (Tony) Jacobs of Elwood, IN and Becky (Ron) Rathert of Alexandria, IN; son, Stephen (Jeni) Tarter of Summitville, IN; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Joy Martin of Hartford City, IN; brother, Ernest (Louise) Fugett of Red Key, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Tammy Tarter; sister, Eva Welch; brothers, Elmer Fugett and Fuston Fugett. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2024, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.Funeral service celebrating Lucy's life will be at 1:00 pm Monday, January 29, 2024, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Becker officiating.
