Michael Whetsel

Michael David Whetsel, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on September 26, 1961, in Elwood, Indiana, the son of Danny & Judy (Coston) Whetsel.

Mike was a proud graduate of Elwood Community High School in 1980. He spent his professional years in manufacturing, at Mosey Manufacturing, Geneva, IN, where his reliability and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Mike was not just defined by his work; he had an undying love for the great outdoors. Hunting was not just a hobby, but a passion that allowed him to form a deep connection with nature.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Whetsel, whom he married on September 16, 2005, and his daughters, Whitney Marsh and Macy Longacre, son, Joe Buckler; grandchildren, Jacob, Croix, Aidric, Trevor, Weston, Carter and Kaiden; brother, Larry Whetsel(Becky) and sister, Patty Whetsel of Elwood and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Danny and Judith Whetsel.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 South Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Matthew Seibel officiating. Burial will follow at the Elwood Cemetery.
