Nelva Jean Ledford Obituary (1927 - 2024)

Nelva Jean Ledford, age 97, of Elwood, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. She was born in Pennington Gap, VA, on January 3, 1927, to the late Mitchell and Ressie (Middleton) McConnel.On April 2, 1946, she married Charles E. Ledford, and they shared 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Nelva retired from Kmart in Elwood, where she worked as a clerk for many years. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Elwood, and she enjoyed listening to music, and planting and caring for flowers, but more than anything, she especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Nelva is survived by her loving granddaughters, Tammy Conner, Jennifer Kinser, and Angela Dean all of Elwood; grandson, Jackie (Laura) Osborn of Elwood; great-grandchildren, Corry (Stephanie) Hall, Courtney Conner (Aaron Campbell), Joshua Philbert, Travis Smith, Landin Fuller, Madison Burris, Jackson Osborn, Maddyson, Quincy, and Hayleigh Hall; sisters, Leoda Murphy, Sandra Kay Adams, Loretta Johnson, Alberta Grubb and, Ina Edens; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Nelva was preceded in death by her parents; father Hobert Matlock, two of her daughters, Peggy L. Dean and Janet Osborn; a son, Joe Ledford; and her brothers, JB Matlock and Mose Matlock. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 am Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood, with Pastor Scott Blaylock officiating.
