Patricia Lynne (Retherford) Giever Obituary (1967 - 2015)

Patricia L. "Patti" (Retherford) Giever, 47, formerly of Howard County, IN, passed away at 11:33 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Marion General Hospital surrounded by her loving family, following an extended battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born in Tipton County, IN on December 12, 1967, the daughter of Rex and Judith Malott and the late Larry Retherford. Patti was a 1986 graduate of Eastern High School and obtained a Bachelors Degree from Ball State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was working on her Ph.D. in Neuroscience until the M.S. became a deterrent. She worked at IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN until she became too ill. Patti married Leonard Giever on June 13, 1998, and he passed away on April 4, 2013. She was a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Greenwood, IN. Patti's sons were the center of her life. She loved them dearly as she didher extended family. She enjoyed flower gardening when she was able. Surviving are her sons Daniel T. Cox, Fairmount, Aaron M. Cox, Terre Haute, and Joshua D. Cox, Bloomington. Parents, Rex and Judith Malott of Greentown.A sister, Rebecca Retherford, New Palestine; two brothers, Donald & wife Susan Retherford, Lafayette, and Timothy & wife Debbie Retherford, Greenfield; a step-sister, Brandi & husband Kevin McClain, Kokomo; a step-brother Brad & wife Shannon Malott, Westfield, and several nieces and nephews. Aunts and Uncles Frances Ley, Tipton, Phillip & wife Janice Ley, Tipton, Norma Gibbons, Elwood,Bill & wife Betty Retherford, Elwood, Barbara Retherford, Windfall,Bonnie & husband Bill Rund, Windfall,Sue Champion, Elwood,Joyce & husband Earl Kendall, Lexington, KY, Mike & wife Julia Malott, Marion,Marjean & husband Ken McBride, Terre Haute,Carole & husband Richard Pogue, Marion,Renita Riggs, Fairmount,Nila Young, Swayzee,Bruce Malott, Gas City;many cousins and her first husband Tom Cox ofFairmount. Patti was preceded in death by her father Larry Retherford; husband, Len Giever; grandparents, Clarence & Eva Ley, Claude & Eunice Retherford, Harold & Betty Malott; aunts Shirley Sage and Sharlene Retherford; uncles, Clarence Sage, Kenny Retherford, Richard Hadley, Jerry Champion and Robert F. Ley. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood, IN, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Visitation for family & friends will be Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. at the Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood, IN.Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tipton, IN. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
