Rose Pace

–

Elwood, Indiana

Rose Evelyn Pace, a long-time resident of Elwood, passed away on April 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born on October 17, 1931, in Lafayette, the daughter of Lucille and Everett Moser. Following her graduation from St. Lawrence High School, she attended St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, also in Lafayette. Rose would earn her degree and would go on to work as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital for many years, which included duties in the cardiac rehabilitation unit. After retiring from nursing, she enjoyed a 10 year period working at K-Mart. Rose married the love of her life, David Pace, on August 9, 1952, and they shared over 47 years together until his passing in 2000.

The model of grace and a natural born care-giver at heart, Rose certainly made an impression wherever she went, and her commitment to serving others was unrivaled. Known as "Rosie" at the hospital, she was loved by everyone she encountered, from the patients to the employees. At home, she was a voracious reader and skilled euchre player, and she could often be found with pen in hand as she poured over another crossword puzzle. However, her most memorable moments were those she spent with her family. Rose would watch for hours as her children and grandchildren raced RC cars around the property, and she absolutely loved visiting the lake house and clubhouse to go fishing, kayaking, canoeing, tubing down Wild Cat Creek, or just relaxing. Rose was also a woman of deep personal faith, and she was a long-time and active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood. While her presence will be greatly missed, her life and lessons will continue to echo in the hearts and minds of her loved ones.

Rose is survived by her children: sons Andy (Sherry) Pace of Atlanta; David (Rhonda) Pace of Moore, MT; Chris Pace of Elwood, and Ron (Ann) Pace of Lafayette; and daughter Kathy (Larry) Cress of Elwood. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Michael (Patty) Cress, Kevin Cress, James (Harmony) Pace, Keith (Alyssa) Pace, Rebecca (Alex) Spooner, Robert Pace, Everett (Amanda) Pace, Ethan Pace, Amanda (Jesse) Scheffelmear, Nicholas (Ashleigh) Pace, Allison Pace, Kristi (Ryan) Feasel, Kimberly Pecar, and Emily (Tim) Roeder; her great-grandchildren, Micah, Ezra, Ashley, Silas, Emry, Peyton, Parker, Paisley, Nora, Knox, Tucker, Londyn, Carter, Jordan, Drew, J.D., Everett Jr., Carly, Keira, Daphne, Amanda, Braden, and Cody; many nieces and nephews; and her wonderful close friends known as "the couples."

Along with her beloved husband and her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her daughter, Jan Pecar; two brothers, Ed and Bill Moser; six sisters, Jane Hayden, Mary Ann Caldwell, Tess Rayburn, Sherry Hamond, Theresa Hoefer, and Ruby Moser; two grandsons, Andrew Pace Jr. and Matt Pecar; and her stepmother, Romana Moser.

Dunnichay Funeral Home of Elwood, Indiana, has been entrusted with Rose's care, and her wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services are scheduled for next Saturday, May 10, 2025, and will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. An hour of visitation will be held in the St. Joseph Center and will begin at 11:00am; the funeral mass officiated by Father Dennis Goth will commence in the sanctuary at noon. Immediately following mass, Rose's ashes will be interred at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery after a brief committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
