Ruth A (Bailey) Leffingwell Obituary (1948 - 2023)

Ruth A. (Bailey) Leffingwell, age 74, of Elwood, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at her home following multiple health issues. She was born in Youngstown, OH on August 7, 1948, to the late Wayne and Marie (Horne) Bailey. Following her high school graduation, Ruth went on to become a registered nurse. On November 22, 1969, Ruth married Richard Leffingwell and they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage together. Ruth and Richard were the owners and operators of Friendly's Restaurant in Elwood for many years. She enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, and bicycling. Ruth enjoyed traveling around the country with Richard and doing some international travel with her good friend Dixie. Some of her favorite adventures were hiking the Appalachian trail, climbing a Fourteener in Colorado and White-Water Rafting. She traveled often to see her children and spent a lot of time in Colorado with her grandchildren. Ruth loved taking her grandchildren on adventures and making life-long memories with them. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Richard Leffingwell of Elwood, IN; daughter, Kristi (husband Mike) Moon of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Ryan (wife Xuan) Leffingwell of Dallas Fort Worth, TX; two grandsons, Brett Rubidoux and Andrew Rubidoux of Colorado Springs, CO; step-grandson, Tanner Moon of Colorado Springs, CO; two step-granddaughters, Kamryn Moon and Jacee Moon of Elwood, IN; brother, William Bailey of FL, Sister, Mary (husband Mike) Ward of Utah; several nieces and nephews; and long-time friend, Dixie Hopkins. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bailey. Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation for Ruth on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Dunnichay Funeral Home 1113 South Anderson Street, Elwood, IN 46036.
