Sylvester R. "Butch" Hahn Obituary (1945 - 2024)

Sylvester "Butch" Hahn, Jr, 79, of Elwood passed away November 10, 2024, at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. Butch was born on January 10,1945 in Anderson, Indiana to Sylvester (Vessie) Sr. and Wavalyn (Danni) Hahn. He attended Elwood schools and lived in Elwood most of his life. Butch served in the US Army from November 17, 1964 to July 5, 1968. On June 21,1969, he married Sylvia (Basham) Hahn and they shared 47 years together before her passing in 2011. Butch retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo. He enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, outings with his sister Cookie and especially time with his family. Butch is survived by his sons Brad (Misty) Hahn of Elwood; Brian (Barb) Fann of Goshen, daughter BethAnn McGurn of Warsaw, and stepdaughter Tammy (Mike) Whittebort of Elwood. Grandchildren Samantha Whisler, Johnathon and Sydney McGurn, Dennis R., Brandon, and Brooklyn Basham, Anthony Leisure, and David and Mike Cooper. Great grandchildren Eli, Ayden, Randyn, Elijah, Ireland, Cleo, Maggie, Quincy, Breelynn, Dennis, Grayson, and Natalie. Sisters Sylvia "Cookie" (Doug) Arnold (his caregivers), Rebecca "Becky" Capps both of Elwood and brother Mark (Penny) Hahn of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife Sylvia, parents Sylvester (Vessie) and Wavalyn (Danni) Hahn, sisters Wavalyn Hahn and Gloria Carter, step- daughters Pam Leisure and Denise Cooper, step-son Dennis D. Basham, son-in-law Patrick McGurn, and grandson Austin Hahn. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 11am to 1pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, IN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 1pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Hahn officiating. Burial will follow at Elwood City Cemetery where the United States Army and the Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard will perform military honors.
