Thomas "Tom" Patrick Carmer Obituary (1962 - 2024)

Thomas Patrick Carmer, age 61, of Tipton, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Indiana University Hospital after an extended illness. Tom was born in Elwood on May 9, 1962, to Donald and Jane (Barrett) Carmer. On September 26, 1997, he married Debra "Deb" Hinton and shared 26 years of marriage. Tom was raised in Elwood and was a part of the Elwood High School class of 1980. After graduation, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon returning home, Tom attended Indiana Technical Institute and obtained his associate degree to be an Electrician. Shortly after he went to work as an electrician for General Motors in Kokomo IN and finished his 30-year career with Allison Transmission. Tom was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing and loved being able to go on hunts in Wyoming. Tom was also an old car enthusiast. He enjoyed watching the car auctions and going to local car shows. Tom also had a special love for animals, especially his cats. In his downtime, he liked watching golf, tennis, and football. Tom's ultimate joy came when he was around his family. Tom is survived by his Wife, Debra "Deb" Carmer; parents, Donald (Jane) Carmer of Elwood, IN; son, Aaron (Brandie) Carmer of Elwood, IN; step-son, Ryan (Lauren) Cage of San Jose, CA; and sister, Caroline Carmer of Elwood, IN. Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents, William (Mildred) Barrett & Gilbert (Florence) Carmer. Tom's wish was to be cremated and the family has entrusted Dunnichay Funeral Home with his care. A celebration of life service will be at 5:00 pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at East Main St. Christian Church, Elwood, Indiana with Matt Seibel officiating. A time for visitation will precede the celebration of life on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, at East Main St. Christian Church, 1801 Main Street, Elwood, Indiana.
